Week 12

Hi everyone;  ALL classes this week will meet in the LABS.  We're almost to the end of the term and need to begin finalizing your 3 best landscape paintings as well as the architectural assignment.
Be sure to bring ALL of your artwork to class with your reference photos.

Week 11

The Thursday and Friday classes will meet at the Arboretum. 

Please check your supply list and prepare your palette BEFORE arriving at the Arboretum.  Be sure to have adequate water and two illustration boards ( heavy weight), for the value study, (about 3" X 5") and one for your color version,  (about 5 X 7').

Don't forget your student I.D.  It should be a sunny day, but cool in the shade, so  bring an extra sweater to be safe.  This will probably be our last outdoor session for the term.

Week 10

The Friday class will meet in the LAB due to rain.  

Bring ALL of your artwork and reference to the lab.  Half day will be focusing on your architectural painting, and half day on your landscape paintings.

Week 8

Monday's Gouache Demo

The Friday class will meet at Descanso Gardens  tomorrow.  Please check your supply list and prepare your palette BEFORE arriving at Descanso.  Be sure to have adequate water and two illustration boards ( heavy weight), for the value study, (about 3" X 5") and one for your color version, ( about 5 X 7' or slightly bigger if you prefer. 

Don't forget your student I.D.  It should be a sunny day, but bring an extra sweater to be safe.

Please bring ALL of your artwork to date, as well as photo reference.  Do your best to have your 10 architectural reference photos this week.  We're already half-way into the term and you need to begin the architectural painting no later than next week.  (see below)

Architectural Photoshop Assignment

NOTE:  Photographs due no later than week 7, however, it may rain this Thursday and Friday, so if possible, take photos this week!

Take 10 photographs of interesting architectural structures to be completed in Photoshop during lab sessions.  This is in addition to the 3 final Photoshop paintings due as part of the final on week 14.

The best time to take your photos is late afternoon, preferably after 4pm.  The objective is to have interesting lighting on your structure.  Three quarter views usually give the best views rather than front-on views.  This will increase your sense of depth and perspective.

Gouache Demo Week 2

Spring 2018

Welcome to Digital Landscape, Spring 2018!

This Blog will inform you of weekly locations for each class.  ALWAYS check the blog prior 
to leaving for class.

WEEK 3 - Monday's class will meet at the L.A. Arboretum in Arcadia.  From Pasadena, take the 210 fwy east to the Baldwin Exit. (about 10 minutes),  turn right on Baldwin and the Arboretum will be immediately on your right.  Please meet in front at the entrance by the benches; wait to enter the park.

Be sure to double-check your supply list.  Make sure you bring a water container that closes tightly with at least 32 ozs. of water.
 Prepare your palette and paper in advance..
  1.  cut sponge and paper to fit the palette
  2.  put wet sponge in the palette
  3.  soak paper in hot water for at least 5 minutes
  4.  place wet palette paper on top of sponge
  5.  close lid and bring with you
 It will be cool weather; dress warm and bring an extra sweater.
 Admission is 6.00 with student I.D. (don't forget it)
