Course Description
Creating "plein-air" paintings using traditional mediums in combination
            with Photoshop techniques.
Course Objective
Painting at various locations, students will learn the principles of
landscape painting. This will include traditional methods in gouache
and/or acrylic, on location, as well as Photoshop enhancement techniques
            in the classroom.
Course Requirements
You must complete at least 4 digital paintings for the course with a
a VALUE STUDY for each painting (a total of 8 paintings).  Make a CD
with all of your paintings.  Label CD with your name, course title, term, student I.D. #, date, and instructor.
• All files MUST  be a jpeg format, 300 dpi. (no smaller than 7” X 12”) No other formats will be accepted. NO EXCEPTIONS

            • Present CD to instructor

VALUES

A value study (tonal) is the first step in the painting process.  Determine what shapes are dark over light or light over dark.  The value study can be smaller than the final art; usually ½ the size.  Paintings fail or succeed most often because of how accurate the values are in the painting rather than poor color choices. The viewer "reads" a painting through it's values and a composition relies on how light and dark values are arranged. The beginner painter often sees a color's hue and  chroma instead of its value.
The best way to understanding color and develop your color sensitivity
is to work with it!

Attendance

Roll will be taken at the end of each session (classroom and on location).
It is your responsibility to report your attendance to the teacher’s assistant at each session.
Grade is based on attendance, participation and completion
of  assignments. (2 unexcused absences will result in failure)
