Week 9

Hi everyone;  Monday's class will meet at Descanso Gardens this week.  It looks like a beautiful day to paint in the gardens, so let's meet at the cafe tables just inside the park on your left.  Always double check your supplies and boards.
The entrance fee is $6.00 with student I.D. so remember to bring your I.D.

Also, don't bring large folding chairs; small folding stools are recommended.

Friday's Gouache Demo

HI everyone;  this week I would like both the Monday and Friday classes to meet in the lab.
Please bring all of your original paintings and PHOTO reference to class. 

 Remember to also take photographs of an architectural structure within the next couple of weeks. It could be an alleyway, interesting house,  barn; church,  or any interesting architectural element.  Please focus on creative lighting and perspective.  I suggest you take the photos between 5 and 7 pm for the best light. 
Please be in class no later than 9:30 am...

Week 2

Monday's gouache demo

Hi Class;  week 2.. both Monday and Friday classes will meet at the L.A. Arboretum in Arcadia.  From Art Center take the 210 fwy east and exit at Baldwin Ave.  Turn Rt, (or south) and the Arboretum will be on right side of the street. (about 15 minutes from ArtCenter)
(Monday Class - cafe is closed on Mondays, so please remember to bring snacks or lunch and water)

Please remember that the entrance fee with student I.D. is $6.00, or you may purchase a year pass for $35.00.  Parking is free.  Please meet at the front entrance.

Please double-check your supply list.  Make sure you have a water container that holds at least 16 ounces of water, and has a lid.
 Do not bring Master Copies this week; we will review those at a later date.

It will be warm, so dress appropriately!  sunscreen, hats etc....

Week 9

Gouache Demo

Hi everyone;  this week we will continue our plein-air painting at the LA Arboretum.  

Please remember to bring 2 boards;  a small board (4 X 6) for your value study and a larger board
(7 X 9) for your final color painting.  Also, double check supplies:  water container (16 oz), etc.

Please be there by 9:30 am...

WEEK 3

                                       Here's the gouache demo from week 3....(90 minutes)

Hi everyone;  we will continue at the LA Arboretum this week.  It's expected to be very warm so please remember to bring hats, sunglasses. sunscreen and plenty of water.

Also, please be sure to bring water in a plastic (tupperware style) container  with a closable lid, that holds at least 16 ounces of water.

Bring 2 watercolor boards:  one 4 X 6 for the value study, and one 8 X 10 for the final color.

I also advise a small camping  stool....

Week 8

The Monday class will meet in Lab#139 due to the weather.  Please be sure to bring your original artwork including your value studies and photographic reference.  Please be in class no later than 9:30!   See you tomorrow morning!

This Friday we will be meeting at the Autry Museum for the "Masters of the American West" show.
The Monday class is encouraged to attend this exhibit!

The Autry Museum is located directly across from the L.A. Zoo, just off of the 5 freeway at the 134 Fwy junction.   We will meet at the museum at 9:45 am.

The entry cost is just $2.00, so please bring cash only!   No need to bring your paints.

Week 7 DESCANSO GARDENS

Hi Everyone;  this week we'll be back at Descanso Gardens in La Canada Flintridge.   Be sure to check your supplies and have 2 watercolor  panels.  The 7" X 9" or similar size for the final art,  and a 4" X 6"  panel for your value study.  also, a plastic water container with a lid;  a small "spritzer" spray bottle.  Please do not bring any large chairs; small "camper" stools are preferable.  If you have any questions about your supplies, refer to the syllabus for a complete list.

Please remember your student I.D. for student admission price of $6.00

Week 5 LAB

Hi Everyone;  no, you're not seeing things!  The snow demo was a request by the Friday class to "interpret" the scene at the Arboretum as a snow scene.  It was fun, partly because the temperature was around 90 degrees, but also to show the class how to use the scene strictly as  reference only, and not as a strict representation.  This gouache demo took about 1 hour and 20 minutes.

We're into week 5 now, and our first lab session.  Monday(139) and Friday(145)  classes will meet in their respective labs for Photoshop enhancement. Please be sure to bring all original artwork, including value studies and reference photos.
Please be there no later than 9:30 am!
